"WORTH THE WAIT"
The Windsor Restoration and Historical Association is pleased to
announce THE GRAND OPEN HOUSE OF THE ORIGINAL HOTEL, Thursday
October 23, 4-6 PM. The public is cordially invited to the event, which includes
tours and refreshments. The Windsor Association will be joined by the Del Norte
Chamber of Commerce and various officials for a ribbon cutting at 4:15 PM, celebrating
completion of the Interior Restoration phase of the 1874 Windsor Hotel main floor
spaces. The painstaking effort to restore these badly deteriorated spaces to their
original appearance has been underway since 2005, supported by hundreds of generous
community donations and two grants from the Colorado State Historical Fund.
The restoration meets not only Federal and State restoration guidelines, but also
all modern code requirements for ADA, electrical, plumbing, heating, and fire
protection. Del Norte contractors have done the vast majority of the work. Future
plans call for Living History displays in the original Parlor space, and efforts
are now underway to select a tenant/restaurant operator to open an 1880's theme
restaurant/destination event center using the original dining rooms, lobby and
kitchen area. Later, historic themed hotel rooms on the second floor will be completed
and added to the operation. This new business is expected to add numerous new
jobs to the local economy, and increase overall economic activity--one of the
Windsor Association's major goals. Click
